Join renowned Canadian astronomy educator Gary Boyle for an evening that connects the night sky to one of the biggest questions we can ask: Where did life come from?
As far as we know, Earth is the only place where life exists. But the ingredients that make life possible—carbon, oxygen, iron—were not formed here. They were forged in the hearts of stars and scattered across the universe in cosmic events long before our planet existed.
In this engaging and accessible experience, Gary brings that story down to Earth.
The evening begins with a 45-minute presentation exploring how the elements that make up our bodies—and everything around us—originated in the stars. Drawing on decades of experience as “The Backyard Astronomer,” Gary makes complex ideas clear, memorable, and deeply human.
Following the talk, guests are invited outside for guided stargazing under some of Ontario’s darkest skies. Using both the naked eye and Gary’s Dobsonian telescope, you’ll explore a selection of celestial highlights, including objects from the famous Messier objects catalogue—nebulae, star clusters, and distant galaxies that reveal the structure and history of our universe.
Gary’s connection to the sky is more than academic— In recognition of more than 30 years of public outreach in astronomy, the International Astronomical Union has honoured him with the naming of Asteroid (22406) Garyboyle.
Come for the stargazing. Stay for the opportunity to see your place in the universe a little more clearly.
