In the early afternoon of August 12, 2026 a rare celestial alignment will unfold above Four Corners Algonquin as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, creating a partial solar eclipse visible from our region. At peak, approximately 13% of the Sun will be covered, creating a gentle “bite” out of the solar disk.

The eclipse will begin shortly before 1:00 PM, reach its maximum around 1:40 PM, and conclude by approximately 2:20 PM.

This is not a dramatic darkening of the sky—but rather a quiet, reflective moment. A reminder that even small shifts in the cosmos can be observed, understood, and appreciated when we take the time to look up.

At Four Corners Algonquin, we’ll approach this event the way we approach all of our sky experiences:

  • with guided interpretation of what’s happening above us

  • with safe solar viewing equipment

  • and with space to slow down and notice

For many, this will be their first time witnessing an eclipse—even a partial one. And like the dark sky itself, it offers something increasingly rare: a direct, personal connection to the mechanics of our universe.
